Week 5: About experimental classroom


What do you think of this experimental classroom?

Physically:  
For audition :
First, from our classmates, the room kill sound, we cannot voice out the opinion to all people in the room easily.

For vision:
There are too many LCD display screen showing the same slide, pros is we can read the slide everywhere, cons is we cannot find a focus of the classroom. I don't know where should I look at when I often have not useful eye contact with each others. It is weird. 

For Smell:
Poor ventilation


For touch:
Crowded

For Space:
Separated, dispersed, isolated each group


For time:
is there any?




 
Mentally:

For learner:
Learner cant find the focus of the classroom
Learner cannot discuss freely across different groups

For teacher:
Teachers cannot monitor the class easily, need to walk around group by group
Teachers don't know if the student is attentive or not, difficult to know how student catch up with and understand the class.

For technical staff
Difficult to maintain the classroom by many complicated set up, many LCD and computers connected together for switching viewing the screen of many computers in each tables.

    Here is my feeling about the teaching and learning in the experimental classroom:

    It is good to design the whole room into different "parts", and with plenty of screen we can easily see the presentation. Besides, the new lighting design can better help teaching in teaching and presenters' presentation, which is that when someone is teaching or presenting, the light effect will focus on him / her, and help everyone pay attention to him /her.

    But the drawback is mainly the cost: does it really cost that much? HKD 6,000,000 is a huge amount of money, with which some poor areas in China can even build a big school! Besides, although there are plenty of screens, sometimes we still prefer watching teachers' face, which can help us understand what he means more. Besides, at the beginning, the WiFi system did not even work (but know it seems much better).

    Thank you for your clear idea about this.

    Now I want to share some of my own idea to solve some of problem you said.

    Physically:
    For audition :the problem is easy to solve, we can use mic in each table to make presentation more clearly to everybody in class, because of the good sound insulation, our class can be disturb less by other noise out side, and affect other classroom nearby.

    For vision:
    the LCD may can control by the teacher, and there is also a LCD in the teacher's table, so sometimes information can be displayed concentrated in class.

    For smell,
    I have little idea about this, because of the limited environment in the classroom, little windows here, and the door maybe keep closing without teaching time which is to keep the facilities safe.

    for touch, i think is it not crowed.

    for space, little communication in each group, we can arrange more presentation to exchange ideas.
